One year before the opening of the World Expo in Osaka, Japan, work on Austria's contribution to the EXPO is right on schedule. Next week, on 16 April, the official ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Austrian pavilion will take place as part of a traditional Shinto ceremony on the EXPO site. At a press conference, President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, Harald Mahrer, Federal Minister of Labour and Economy, Martin Kocher, Governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Commissioner General Ursula Plassnik and the Japanese Ambassador in Vienna, H.E. Ryuta Mizuuchi, provided information about the EXPO activities over the next 18 months. As a symbol of the good economic, cultural and political relations, a cherry tree was also planted together in the garden of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.
