One year before the start of Expo 2025 Osaka, the official groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Austrian pavilion took place with a traditional Japanese ceremony.
A Shinto priest consecrated the building site to ensure the safe and successful construction of the pavilion.
Harald Mahrer, President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, performed the ground-breaking ceremony together with the Austrian Ambassador to Japan, Elisabeth Bertagnoli, the Deputy Secretary General of the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, Manatsu Ichinoki, and representatives of the companies commissioned with the construction.
The general contractor is the internationally active Swiss consortium Nüssli, while construction is being carried out by the Japanese construction company Tekken.
